Fun with Power Tools

With a Garage full of new to me tools I decided that I best learn to use them correctly and safely. I signed up for a beginning woodworking class at a local shop called the Sawdust Shop. It is a full service store and workshop. If you don’t have your own tools, you can rent time in their workshop. They have everything you could possibly need. The class was 16 hours long over 4 evenings.

Tonight was the last evening of class and I have finished my project. Isn’t it beautiful? It is made out of Solid Mahogany for the frame and shelves and Plywood for the back. It will get a light coat of oil and then into the studio for thread storage. I had a lot of fun.

Update 4/20: I forgot to mention. The finished shelves are 12 inches wide by 16 inches tall.

The shelves are beautiful. I’m so impressed. So, OK - Dad would like a gun case, Mom would like just a few shelves - you know that 20 ft. wall in the family room? Little Calvy could really use a toy box. Can you think of anything for the newlyweds? And Em - could use a new computer desk. We’ve all been waiting for someone in the family to get good with power tool.

Looks good to me. I’m still thinking I would like a simple Oak bookshelf out of the leftover wood. Been looking for a small CD/DVD cabinet. Didn’t think that would be so hard to find. Found some black ones at Best Buy today, but I want light wood. Anyway, I’ll keep looking. Have fun with your woodworking. You always liked “stuff” just like your Dad.
