A face lift for our House: The tranquil backyard

backyard_point,JPG Welcome to our new backyard!

We expect to throw lots of BBQ parties, relax after a hard day’s work, and just general “spending quiet time”. We’ll give you the virtual tour to help explain what you’re seeing.

Let’s start out by walking down the sideyard pathway and into the backyard. You arrive at the right hand side of the deck, near the BBQ grill, and you face a raised bed that has a Trumpet Vine and Bird of Paradise.  In between where you’re standing and the back fence is a small planting bed with a Crepe Myrtle tree. They’re very fast growers, so we expect to have lots of nice shade from it in a few years.

At the deck point you see the water feature and a climbing vine. The vine is expected to climb and cover the arbor on the deck, providing some nice shade. Looking at the deck you’ll see that each side is flanked by ensembles of brightly-colored pots. They’re all based on a consistent set of colors to help draw the eye around the space.

Here’s what the other side of the deck looks like, more plants. And you’ll see another planting bed..with another Crepe Myrtle. Here’s a close up of that planting bed, and the cute little metal bug we bought at the 2006 Ann Arbor Art Festival.

Here’s a view of the main backyard space, you’ll see raised planting beds at each corner. It breaks up the space, adds interest, and some informal seating for gatherings.

Right out of a magazine! Beautiful. Obviously well thought out and
executed. I love the little bug. Just found mine the other day. Plants look
beautiful and lush.
