Julie's Old Art Room

When I first moved in everything was great. At this point I didn't have everything out of moving boxes so the closet was used as storage.

In the first version of the room layout I had everything flat against the wall and my back to the door. That didn't seem to suit me, so I pulled the desk into the center of the room and positioned my supplies all around me. That worked great. I was able to add a card table to the end of my table to let other people stamp with me and most of my tools were within easy reach.

Then I started to unpack all my "stuff". I more I unpacked the worse it got. Every Friday I meet with a friend or two to stamp and craft. One has been threatening for the last 3 or 4 months to devote an entire Friday evening to helping me clean the room.

That and my grumbling prompted Bill to suggest we organize the closet with something other than clothes rods and a shelf too tall for me to reach. The closet is an old fashioned walk in. It is 5 feet wide by 3 feet deep with a standard closet door. They had closet rods for clothes that went from the front to back with shelves over the top of the closet rods. That meant that everything just got piled in the closet on the floor. Impossible to find anything.

So Christmas 1999 weekend we went and bought closet shelf brackets. We ripped everything out of the closet, painted it and installed the new shelf brackets. Now it is time to fill it up and see if there is any space left over. That is the plan for the New Years weekend.

Here's some pictures of the room.

What a mess. Too
much stuff, not
enough organization.

The first picture really isn't Fall 1998. It is the pile of stuff that I took from the closet. It looked about the same in the closet as it does here.
